Puella Magi Madoka Magica; Get eaten by DFCs, Hitagi and sheer Awesomeness!
Not a very appetizing title pic isn't it? Meh, Its fine. So long as you'll be devoured from what this new anime from Aniplex and SHAFT has to offer you.
Okay, lets start with the prologue. A flying loli with a weird thing on her arm fighting the unknown. Nice! Frankly as I watched, it made me feel like I'm watching a movie, considering the great amount of special effects that has been put on the first five minutes of the series. Now I can finally say its 2011. Yeah~
But the prologue doesn't explain the main concept whatsoever. All it shows was forcing Madoka to become a magical girl. Quite a letdown for the anime, though my mind says otherwise; it keeps me curious about what that eerie scenery means.
Now moving on to the main heroine of the story. Kaname Madoka - as the title implies. She's the wishy-washy pink-haired girl talking to the weird animal in the prologue.
As far as I can describe her, she's a good child of her family of four; Satsuya(her mom), her dad, her little brother(as shown in the title pic), and Madoka herself. It appears that she and her mom are really close.
She also had a couple of friends; Hitomi and Sayaka. Sayaka's the blue, short-haired girl on the left who has a cheerful, carefree personality. Then Hitomi; the girl on the right beside Madoka, is depicted as a young beauty that lets out a bourgeois aura in contrast to Sayaka's rowdy attitude. While they all had different traits, the three seem to be the best of friends.
So with all of that, I can conclude Madoka is a naive, innocent girl who lives an almost perfect life until she got involved in the mahou shoujo business. That's how it should be, and how its always been.
Oh, about the prologue. It was Madoka's dream. That's how it all started. It was just another day of school for her until a new student came along; Akemi Homura.
Why this again? A mysterious yet beautiful transfer student that excels in academics and sports. Man, this development is REALLY getting old! But nevermind that. She's the girl of her dreams ...erm that's quite not right. She's the girl from Madoka's dream and I think I saw her somewhere before.
Her looks, her style, her attitude, and more importantly her cold gaze. She really looks like Hitagi Senjougahara from the Monogatari franchise! But without the physique of course. Think of it as the loli version LOL What's more, they also share the same voice actress Chiwa Saito, no wonder. I wish I could talk even more about her but she's as mysterious as she gets; I don't even know if she's an enemy or not.
As soon as she came to study in the school she immediately approached Madoka to warn her in an inderect manner. And obviously, Madoka didn't care. Afternoon came and Sayaka, along with Madoka went to the mall to listen to some music. While on the audio shop, Madoka heard a voice calling in her mind for help. As she searched for it, she ended up on a certain floor which was closed for renovation. Typical setting for action if I say so myself. There she saw both existence form her dreams; Akemi and the weird stuffed toy-like creature. By the looks of it, it seems that Akemi had to kill that creature for whatever reason, but Madoka doesn't approve. Why? Because its goddamn cute soit probably doesn't mean any harm! Probably! XD Then Sayaka appeared with a fire extinguisher. She used it to get away from Akemi. Just as they were on the exit, the surroundings rapidly changed as if it was another dimension.
It would appear that it wasn't Akemi's doing, as she was also enveloped into the dimension.
There they were threatened by a horde of err...moustached cotton balls which I assume is dangerous, along with the bizzare environment. I just don't get it. Then came another character who saves Madoka and Sayaka - the first magical girl that appeared in the series. Umm, lets skip the henshin sequence shall we?
She uses chains to protect the girls from harm while she shows off her magical powers by mimicking a move from another anime.
After wasting the entire surroundings the scenery went back to normal thanks to her. She then confronts Akemi and made her retreat. By the way, the creature in pursuit earlier was introduced as Kyube. She was healed by the magical girl whose name was Mami Tomoe. They had a little chat, then subsequently insists Madoka to be a magical girl. End of episode one.

Whew, I said a lot. Thanks to Akiyuki Shinbou-sensei for directing another to-be awesome anime. As well as Ume Aoki-sensei for creating such moe characters since the Hidamari series. Its like I'm seeing Yuuno in a different hairstlye and color in action! LOL. Oh, and also SHAFT and Aniplex for the awesome effects.
Darn, I just talked like an afternoon TV host. Anyhow, as far as the story reveals, its still vague for me how those surroundings mindlessly popped out from nowhere, and what does it have to do with magical girls. Well, its an asset I think.
Moreover, I like how they staff out the voice actors for each of the characters; it was surprising when I found out Akemi's voice was Chiwa Saito-san. Aoi Yuuki-san, Emiri Katou-san, and Eri Kitamura-san are also part of the team. Wow, they really prepared a high budget airing this anime. I gotta expect more next episode.
Sounds. The OP theme is done by Claris - who also sang OreImo's OP theme. Then Kalafina as the ED theme. If there's Kalafina then the BGM must be done by famous Yuki Kajiura-sensei. Nothing more I could ask for, really.
"The awesomeness beats the moe factor of the series." Is what I would like to say. I hope this doesn't turn out to be like BR*S's development.
So there goes my first impression, imma blog Yumekui Merry later, gotta sleep for now.
